The financial media's frenzy over the 132% listing gains in IRCTC will last several months. However, investors would not be whipping themselves into a frenzy due to the simple reason that the 132% gain translated into just 8.46% gain for them, if at all they were lucky.
Due to the huge oversubscription there was only a 12% chance of retail investors being allotted one lot i.e. 40 shares. Considering the high price of Rs. 743, the total gains would amount to Rs.16,920. On an investment of Rs. 2,00,000 this translated into a 8.46% gain. Not bad if you were among the few lucky/ chosen ones.
